Source: Cabinet okays cuts in levies for key sectors – herald Freeman Razemba- Senior Reporter Vice President Kembo Mohadi has urged Cabinet ministers to pursue integrated and coordinated solutions to challenges affecting their respective sectors and the nation at large as Government implements development programmes aimed at accelerating economic growth and improving people’s livelihoods. He said such an approach would contribute significantly to the enhancement of living standards for all Zimbabweans. The Vice President made the remarks yesterday when he convened a high‑level meeting of ministers and deputy ministers from the Social Services Cluster, which falls under his purview.
The meeting was held at Munhumutapa Building in Harare. The cluster comprises the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training; Ministry of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture; Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education; Ministry of National Housing and Social Amenities; Ministry of Information, Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services; Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage; Ministry of Local Government and Public Works; Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development; Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare; and the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development. Addressing the meeting, Vice President Mohadi welcomed participants and underscored the importance of regular engagements within the cluster. “As we gather here today, I want to extend a warm welcome to you all—Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Permanent Secretaries and representatives from various agencies within the Social Services Cluster and cross‑cutting ministries,” he said. “We last met during the first quarter of 2024, and we were supposed to meet every quarter thereafter.
Unfortunately, this has not been possible due to circumstances beyond our control. We hope that our sector meetings will be more frequent going forward.” VP Mohadi said the meeting followed the 2026 Performance Contracts Signing Ceremony and the 2025 Performance Awards Ceremony, which were held on March 16, 2026 and presided over by President Mnangagwa. He noted that the ceremonies recognised outstanding contributions towards the attainment of the country’s national vision. “These events showcased how individual and collective efforts contribute to broader social sector objectives while underscoring Government’s focus on improving social and economic services outcomes,” he said. “His Excellency, the President, urged us all to recommit ourselves fully to the transformation of the livelihoods of all Zimbabweans.” The Vice President highlighted that Government had successfully concluded the first National Development Strategy (NDS1) and was now transitioning into NDS2, which represents the final phase towards the realisation of Vision 2030. “The Social Services Sector is therefore crucial for any nation’s progress.
We must align our priorities and goals for 2026 and beyond,” he said. “We should work together as a formidable team towards the accelerated attainment of our National Vision.” VP Mohadi also commended the cluster for adopting a Monitoring and Evaluation Electronic Dashboard in 2024 as part of the Whole‑of‑Government Approach. The system was developed by experts from Bindura University of Science Education. He described the dashboard as a critical tool that enhances data‑driven decision‑making and performance monitoring across the social sector. “The dashboard facilitates the timely acquisition of critical and accurate project progress updates, enabling informed decision‑making and prompt interventions,” he said. “I have been advised that this platform is now being adopted across Government.” In concluding his remarks, VP Mohadi called on ministers and officials to maintain a collaborative approach in implementing Government programmes. “As we implement Government programmes and projects, I call upon every one of us to strive towards integrated solutions to the challenges bedevilling our sector in particular and the whole nation in general, with a view to moving the economy forward,” he said. “This will contribute to the enhancement of the living standards of our people.” The post Cabinet okays cuts in levies for key sectors appeared first on Zimbabwe Situation .
