HARARE – Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa on Wednesday received a donation of 10 ambulances and 200,000 litres of diesel at State House, in a move the Government says will strengthen the country’s emergency healthcare response system.
The ambulances, described as state-of-the-art, are equipped with key medical technologies including respirators, oxygen delivery systems, defibrillators and advanced patient monitoring units. They were officially handed over to the Ministry of Health and Child Care for distribution across Zimbabwe’s provinces.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, President Mnangagwa said the donation would enhance access to critical healthcare services and improve the efficiency of emergency response systems, particularly in underserved areas.
“This support will go a long way in strengthening our healthcare delivery system and ensuring that no community is left behind,” he said.
The donation was made by businessman Wicknell Chivayo, who has in recent years been involved in several high-profile contributions to Government programmes.
In his remarks, President Mnangagwa acknowledged the role of the private sector in supporting national development, highlighting the importance of partnerships between Government and business in achieving long-term economic and social goals.

Analysts say such contributions come at a time when Zimbabwe’s public health sector continues to face resource constraints, including shortages of equipment, funding and personnel. While donations can provide immediate relief, some observers note that sustained investment and structural reforms remain critical to long-term improvements.
The Government has consistently stated that strengthening the healthcare system is a key pillar under its Vision 2030 agenda, which aims to transform Zimbabwe into an upper middle-income economy. Officials argue that collaboration with private sector actors is essential to achieving these targets.
The latest donation is expected to bolster ambulance services across the country, although details on the allocation and rollout timeline have not yet been made public.
