Botswana President Vows Crackdown on Corruption After Forensic Audit Release
GABORONE — Botswana’s President Duma Boko has announced an aggressive nationwide crackdown on corruption and “tenderpreneurship” following the release of a long-awaited forensic audit report.
In a strong statement issued moments after receiving the report, Boko declared that the government will move decisively against all individuals implicated in wrongdoing.
“The real work begins now. This is the moment to cleanse our nation, to root out corruption and dismantle every form of malpractice that has weakened our institutions.”
The President made it clear that the crackdown will not target individuals arbitrarily, but will focus on enforcing the law against those found guilty of corruption.
“This is not a campaign against individuals… every offender will be pursued and prosecuted without fear or favour.”
Boko said authorities will act “robustly and relentlessly” to restore integrity in public institutions, warning that accountability will be enforced across the board.
“The law will take its course, decisively, fairly, and without compromise.”
The forensic audit, commissioned by the government, is expected to expose irregularities in public finance management and procurement systems, including the activities of so-called tenderpreneurs.
The President also thanked the forensic investigators for their work, praising their professionalism and commitment to uncovering the truth.
The release of the report is expected to trigger investigations, possible arrests, and major reforms within government structures.
