Jessie Majome moved from ZHRC chairperson role in reshuffle

President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has, with immediate effect, transferred Jessie Majome from her position as Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission to serve as a commissioner in the Public Service Commission.

The announcement was made this afternoon through a press statement issued by the Chief Secretary to the Office of the President and Cabinet, Martin Rushwaya.

The reassignment comes in the wake of an explosive ZHRC report that strongly criticised the conduct of proceedings linked to the Constitutional Amendment Bill public hearings, which had already stirred political sensitivity.

Majome, a former opposition legislator and constitutional lawyer, was appointed to lead the human rights body in 2018 following her loss of a parliamentary seat.

Her removal from the commission chairpersonship has immediately sparked debate across political and civil society circles, with questions being raised over whether the move is a routine administrative reshuffle or part of a broader tightening around independent oversight institutions and critical governance reports.
