Source: Minister leads Zim media delegation to China – herald Nqobile Bhebhe in Beijing, China INFORMATION, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr Zhemu Soda arrived here in Beijing, China today leading a delegation of more than 20 Zimbabwean media practitioners who will be attending a Seminar for Media Professionals of Zimbabwe. Participants are drawn from public, private media houses and other key stakeholders. The seminar which runs from 7-20 May is designed to help Zimbabwean media practitioners gain a deeper insight into China’s media landscape, foster a full understanding of China’s current development trajectory as well as its modernisation initiatives.

The engagement is organised by The Academy for International Business Officials (AIBO), an educational and training institution directly under the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China. In an interview Chief Director, Government messaging and Programs, Mr Jonathan Gandari told Zimpapers that the engagement is a South to South cooperation in the sphere of communication, media and broadcasting services. “The Minister is leading the delegation and a number of bilateral meetings have been lined up with his counterparts. ” The Zimbabwe ambassador to China Mrs Shonhiwa and the Chief Director will provide technical support to the Minister during the bilateral meetings. The Minister will visit selected media institutions during this visit,” said Mr Gandari.

He added, “Zimbabwe admires the Chinese model of development which lifts livelihoods from poverty to inclusive prosperity (rural and urban industrialisation). ” The field visits will give the media professionals practical exposure to the Chinese miracle,” said Mr Gandari. Backed by the Ministry of Commerce and in close cooperation with China’s top think tanks, research institutes and universities, AIBO brings together a large number of China’s top experts and scholars to provide intellectual support for foreign aid training. It has developed a number of high-quality foreign aid training projects in the fields of trade and investment, international economic cooperation, governance and public management, which have proved to be fruitful.
